The National Economic and Development Authority approved the Philippine Development Plan 2017 -2022 earlier this year. The ambitious plan targets not only a continued positive economic growth between 7 to 8 percent annually, but also an inclusive growth which aims in reduction of poverty, with an aim to also reduce the overall unemployment rates in the medium term.

This plan, amongst many initiatives aims to attract foreign investments, develops science and innovation and infrastructure. With the above macroeconomic context, both local organisations and MNCs in the Philippines will be encouraged to be more attractive to the workforce as well as become more efficient and effective.

Rewards managers therefore need to ensure a competitive pay environment is in place to attract and retain talents. The HR function in organisations need to work towards a more strategic function on how to be a significant stakeholder to the senior management and board to effectively manage costs and workforce.
